McVitie's Penguin Polar Relay - Update11 AprilMore reports

When Penguin Bravo started their leg on Sunday 30 March the scheduled changeover day was Thursday 10 March. Problems with ski bindings reported back from the ice last Monday evening has caused everyone a few headaches in finding a solution it also lead to a decision being made to push the changeover day to Friday. On Tuesday when this decision was made the forecast was for the weather to become more rather than less stable as the week progressed. A reasonable basis for the decision? No such luck. Thursday dawns in Resolute; sunny, clear and windless. Let's hope it is the same tomorrow - is the thought on the mind of Penguin Bravo on the ice and Penguin Charlie back in Resolute - hanging around is not good for the nerves or the expedition's progress. Mid afternoon, the jet arrives from down South with the spare binding parts the ice team need. Eight hours later, the work on the ski bindings are complete after some fairly major hack saw surgery conducted by Sue Self the MPPR's official reserve. Alas, the Arctic weather report showing up on the satellite maps are now not so favourable. Charlie retire to bed hopeful but doubtful that they will be on the twin otter the next morning to start what they have been building up to for twenty months or so. The 07.00 radio call from Bravo informs us that the weather is good for changeover. The weather forecast suggests the opposite. One hour later Bravo inform us that things are not looking so bright. The 08.30 satellite pass photo gives more bad news. To add salt to the wound the outlook for Saturday is even more grim. Charlie are stood down and proceed to keep themselves distracted from the building tension by starting a mid morning session of what the less informed among us are told is reeling. Bravo are left to their own devices
