Sue is no stranger to expeditions. For instance, she has cycled 1200 miles across South America (including the Andes), canoed the length of the River Shannon and also followed by bicycle the path of the Japanese invasionary force from Penang ro Raffles Hotel in Singapore. An orthopaedic surgeon, she has recently returned to London from six months working in hospitals in Zambia. She has travelled a great deal and the Arctic now appeals to her because it offers a privileged look onto an unknown part of nature. The element of risk involved with the expedition is also exciting to her and she is particularly pleased to be part of a team which is promoting a very positive image for women.
